~ Spore-Batam Trip ~

Finally, I’ve compiled da pics taken during my trip to Spore & Batam (refer to my entry Spore-Batam Trip on March 12th).

Tried to upload them to Facebook album but failed due to unknown reason. This is the sneak peak of the album. Maybe i’ll try to upload them all (100 pics more or less) after i finish my exam.

P/S: Can u see, my writing becomes shorter than usual? This is da style of writing during ‘exam-dah-dekat’ mode. Please bear with me.

You Made My Day

Photobucket

I always imagine this:

- There’s one THING I wholeheartedly want, but i cannot afford to have it now.

- When I go to the shop, I keep eyeing the THING admiringly through the display glass.

- I keep asking the salesperson on the price of the THING (though I know it won’t change much everytime I ask).

- I put the THING as the Num. 1 item in my wish list.

- I know that I have to put aside a lot of $ to get the THING. So sometimes I wish there’s someone kind enough to surprise me by showing up with the THING as a present for me! (Yea..I know. Keep on dreaming, Syahiera).

- I wonder how it feels then; the thrill, the pleasure, the happiness, the euphoria, the contentment and the gratefulness.

But today, I don’t have to think and wonder anymore.

Cause I already know the feeling.. :-)

Confessions of a Shopaholic

My The long-awaited movie has come to cinemas today!

Photobucket

“CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC, starring Isla Fisher as a beautiful, irresponsible and compulsive young woman who’s addicted to fashion and cannot stop spending. Hugh Dancy plays a highly ambitious newspaper editor, a workaholic who is obsessed with his career but has no interest at all in shopping. It sounds like they are polar opposites, yet, as the highly entertaining story unfolds, they discover they have more in common than meets the eye. The film, directed by P.J. Hogan, is based on the novels by Sophia Kinsella; Confessions of a Shopaholic & Shopaholic Takes Manhattan”.

Photobucket

This movie is based on the novels by Sophie Kinsella. If I’m not mistaken, there’s 4 or 5 novels under the Shopaholic series. Introduced by one of my shopaholic friend, I had read all of them. The character Rebecca Bloomwood is hillarious!

Hmm.. i wonder when i can go watch this movie..

~The 4 titles in the series. I think, another one is ‘Shopaholic Ties the Knots’ where she married Fluke Luke Brandon :-) ~

PDA Phones

My passion for PDA Phones started long time ago. The need to get one resurfaced when i started working. One of the main reasons was to install the software Micromedex Mobile in my computer. This is a very powerful and useful software for pharmacists, especially for those doing clinical pharmacy. I know that government hospitals (or institutions) buy and renew the software for a quite high price. I’ve seen an invoice of RM 16,000 for renewal of two main functions in that software; DRUGDEX (Drug Information) and POISINDEX (Toxicology Information). But as a staff from that institution that bought this software, we are able to install the mobile version of Micromedex in our Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). The operating system (OS) requirement for this mobile software is either Windows Mobile (WM)(Pocket PCs) or Palm OS. Other OS like Symbian used in smartphones is not compatible. It can be updated instantly at each sync with the latest information.

Many asked me on how to install the Micromedex Mobile in their PDAs. You have to get the facility’s Customer Number from any computer installed with Micromedex in that facility. You’ll have to undergo registration which later requires basic information about you and also the Customer Number. Then, you just follow step-by-step guide on how to install the Micromedex Mobile to your PDA. You may also need an installation CD to install sync software, such as Microsoft ActiveSync (which is usually included when u buy your Pocket PC).

My friend, Ina SMS me last week..asking my recommendation on which brand/model of PDA to buy. She wanted to buy a PDA only, not a PDA phone. I don’t know how great the price difference between the two..as I used to have a PDA phone (which was stolen!). About the brands, I never use any other brands except O2. But, the last time i went to Lowyatt, the seller said the brand O2 is not widely sold in Malaysia now. New models a not many..and there are difficulties in finding the accessories / spare-parts. I dunno what’s the real reason. Maybe he’s trying to push the sale of HTC, a close competitor. I’ve became fond of O2 all this while. The service centre i went was in Berjaya Times Square.

~ The baby PDA phone I lost :-( ~

OK, I dedicate this entry to Ina (& myself). I’ll give a short review on some of the latest PDA phones I’m dying to have. The price might be not accurate at the time of printing publication.

HTC Touch 3G – RM 1999

This HTC is slightly cheaper than other HTC models..maybe due to it’s simple design. Anyway, it also has Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, 2.8 inch touchscreen, 3.2MP camera, 3.5G and wifi function

LG Prada (LGKF900) – RM 2999

I’m dreaming to own this Prada phone by LG. But, the price.. hmm.. But, cannot say much. It’s a PRADA u’re wearing (using). It’s a 3.5G smartphone, with 5MP camera and slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The only setback for me is that it doesn’t have WM

Photobucket

Samsung Innov8 – RM 2899

Blackberry Phones

Someone talked to me about Blackberry. But I don’t have much interest in Blackberry. Their distinct function is push email (among others). But, I don’t think I really need push email. I’m not the one who always on the go. I get access to internet at home & office, 24 hours a day. If you are interested, you can browse further on Blackberry. Blackberry Pearl is slim in design, while some models of Blackberry Curve has GPS function.

Holiday Travel: 7 Tips to Make it Less Stressful

HOW TO MAKE TRAVEL LESS STRESSFUL

Traveling is an integral part of the holiday season for many people. While traveling any time can be a major source of stress, holiday travel (loaded with gifts, baggage, kids, through possible wintry weather, and on common crowded pre- and post-holiday travel dates) is even more nerve-racking. Although you can’t eliminate the stress associated with holiday travel, these tips can help you lessen the impact of holiday travel stress.

1. Accept the situation and plan ahead

Crowded airplanes and highways, wintry weather, harried personnel, and unexpected delays are all aspects of your trip that are beyond your control. Assume you’re likely to encounter most or all of these obstacles, and that you aren’t going to be able to change them. Instead, focus on your reactions to these stressors. Anticipation of stressful occurrences, and forming a mental plan for remaining calm and dealing with them, will greatly reduce your perception of stress.

2. Give yourself enough time

Photobucket

Whatever your mode of travel, allow yourself more time than you can possibly imagine you will need when traveling for the holidays. This is particularly important for heavy-travel days (such as the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in the U.S.). On these days, just about everything – including check-in lines, security check-in, finding a cab, and airport parking can be expected to take longer than usual. Business travelers accustomed to a travel routine may also find that traveling with the family along doesn’t run quite as smoothly or efficiently as when traveling solo. Knowing that you have adequate time to deal with any unexpected occurrences can help prevent anxiety and stress. Should you arrive at the airport early, remember that sitting in an airport lounge working or reading is far more relaxing than sitting in a traffic-stalled taxi 20 minutes before your flight departs.

3. Make a few contingency plans

Photobucket

Consider the truly unexpected circumstances. For example, you drive to the airport and the parking lots are full, or a snowstorm is approaching your destination city. Always check airline departure times, weather, traffic, and parking reports before departing, and have some backup ideas ready (leave earlier, leave later, use another mode of transportation) to prevent panic.

4. Check your bags

Photobucket

If you’re traveling by air and dedicated to your carry-on, consider the advantages of checking your luggage. The risk of delayed or lost baggage is actually very small, and the freedom of movement gained during your journey is often worth the risk, particularly if you’ll have layovers in crowded airports. Think about possible delays and decide if you’re up to hauling those carry-ons everywhere you go. Planes (and overhead compartments) are going to be at their fullest capacity.

5. Keep the kids happy (and well fed)

Travelers with young children will want to plan for amusements and distractions for long waits, drives, or flights. Having a few “surprise” novelty items to hand out at intervals is a good technique to combat boredom and fussiness. Since children (and adults!) tend to be more anxious and stressed when hungry, bring along some snacks (preferably of the non-sticky, non-melting variety) and a bottle of water. Don’t count on the airplane meal appealing to your child’s tastes or even being served when you’d like it, if there is even a meal option. Likewise, plan for long highway stretches and traffic jams, which mean you won’t have instant access to food vendors. Another advantage is that you yourself won’t fall into the trap of becoming cranky due to hunger pangs.

6. Think about changes of clothing

Photobucket

If your children belong to the baby/toddler set, consider having an accessible change of clothing for you as well as for the little ones, since your little frequent flyer may decide to spill his food on you rather than on him/herself. You can also dress in layers which can be removed if necessary. If you must arrive looking your best, think about traveling in comfortable clothes and changing on the plane or at a rest area before you reach your destination.

7. Plan ahead for next year’s holidays

Photobucket

This is the last thing you’re likely to want to do in the midst of holiday stress. But if you find that your holiday travel is unbearable, use this year’s get-together to discuss alternate plans for next year. If family “tradition” dictates that you meet at a far-off or inconvenient location for you, suggest a change to a more accessible place for next year (or offer to act as host yourself). You may even feel you need to skip travel and family gatherings altogether next year. A tactful announcement that you’re planning to do something different next year is much easier to make now than three weeks before next year’s festivities. If you remain committed to traveling at holiday time, make a note in your calendar to arrange plane reservations for your trip months in advance to avoid inconvenient flight times and connections.

Singapore-Batam Trip

Day 1 – Saturday

Early 2009, I managed to go for a trip to Singapore & Batam with Zue, Ana & Yatt..my former classmate taking BPharm in Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, IIUM. We took one fine Saturday to take Airasia flight to Spore (RM180). Being in KL, I have to wait for Zue & Yatt taking morning flight from Kota Bharu, while Ana took flight from Kuantan. Our flight to Spore boards at 3pm.

Photobucket

We reached Spore around 350pm. Walked around the airport, found the Uniquely Spore booth and grabbed some brochures on travelling/shopping in Spore. Took a cab to our hotel, Treasure Resort Sentosa located in the heart of Sentosa Island. Sitting elegantly on a gentle slope right beneath The Merlion and overlooking the sea, Treasure Resort boasts her colonial architectural heritage tracing back to the 1940s. However, there’s construction work being done. So, the swimming pool is not available for us. Yet, the price? RM 695 for 1 night + bfast for 4 person + the card for getting around in Sentosa for 4 person! I guess, the most expensive hotel room in my life.. The room is OK..comfy & cozy..but too small from what we expected from a Deluxe room.

Photobucket

After much resting & munching our food stock.. we went out after jama’ Mgrib-Isya’. Getting the kiblat direction is one issue. Luckily i brought the Nicorette keychain..which has a small compass on it. So, it helped us. We went out.. using the free ride from Imbiah to Harborfront. The Imbiah station is just opposite our hotel entrance. From Harborfront, took the train to Esplanade. So many ppl there..and we found prob in searching for halal food..and we were getting very hungry by then. We chose one Thai restaurant and had to wait for half an hour before being placed. 3 of us ordered Nasi Goreng Thai Special.. and it was very hot & f***ing spicy..i couldn’t finish my dish. And it was RM32 per dish! We went back to hotel by cab after the delayed dinner and a few photo-shoots.

Day 2 – Sunday

After bfast, we straightaway check-out from the room. And started our tour in Sentosa Island. We planned to do the Luge & Skyride..but the hot wheather made us dehydrated and losing mood to do the activities there. We just took bus rides & beach trams to get around the island. Went to Siloso beach.. wonder how they play beach volleyball in bikini in this freakingly hot wheather. We stopped and got a taste of 3 scoops of Ben & Jerry icecream with the cost RM15. We walked around Imbiah Lookout later on before getting to the souvenir shop to get something.

Photobucket

Damn.. I look so fat during this trip (comparing with my post-fever weight)…

I was then feel dehydrated and didn’t have the energy to walk around Sentosa anymore. We decided to go to Batam early so that we can get some rest. We took the free Sentosa bus ride to Harborfront. Getting hungry by then..still having prob getting halal food, we decided to take our dinner in Batam once we reach there. One thing stopped the girls in Harborfront.. this shop selling handbag. I admit that i quite like the design.. but i dont plan to shop in Spore. Our main target for shopping is in Batam Island.

Photobucket

The return ferry ticket price from Spore-Batam costs us around RM100 per person. Plus, SGD 7 tax to be paid per person. We board the ferry at 430pm..and reached Batam about one hour later.

Photobucket

~ Sorry for the low-quality picture.. ~

Photobucket

Performed Zuhur-Asar & Maghrib-Isya’ prayers at a surau in Batam Centre, we met a very nice lady Mrs. Bambang there. She is a dentist with her own dental clinic. She guided us on where to shop and where to stay in Batam. A very useful info. Then, she lead us to Batam Megamall by connecting bridge from Batam Centre. We never knew Batam is very industrialized. We had our long-awaited dinner there.. So relieved to get halal food easily. Thanks to Mrs. Bambang. We then took a cab ride to Puri Garden Hotel, near Nagoya area where we gonna shop tomorrow. We took a Deluxe room to accomodate 4 of us. And we quite satisfied with the room. Very spacious, with a dining table and a sofa in addition to other basic amenities. Resting the whole night, preparing for a long day shopping tomorrow.

Day 3 – Monday

After bfast at the hotel, we walked around Nagoya..asking ppl around on the shop names as suggested by Mrs. Bambang. We went shopping for the whole day. The aim is to get back in hotel before the day gets dark. Original perfume is very cheap there. For instance, i bought my Bulgari Omnia Crystalline for RM 230-240 (40ml). Here, the same perfume in 75ml only costs around RM 100-120! We managed to get some perfume after 2-3 hours bargaining in a shop named Coco. Then, we walked around Nagoya to search for handbags. Original handbags are slightly cheap than in Malaysia. But the brands are limited to Bonia, Elle, Braun Buffel.. to name a few. The pirated handbags are many..with diffrent grades based on quality. Some of us bought branded watches which is slightly cheaper than in Malaysia.

We stopped to have our lunch..having the famous Nasi Padang.. with many lauks.. And thank God the restaurant provides prayer room. Easy for us. We continued shopping until evening. Our last stop was in a shop suggested by Mrs. Bambang (I cant remember the name of the shop). We spent time for our final shopping there. All of us bought original sunglasses from that shop..(with a special price for Mrs. Bambang’s friends). We got the famous Kek Pisang Batam there..A yummy banana cake coated with either chocolate or cheese topping. So delicious!! I’m still craving for it.
The best part was the owner of the shop asked her personal driver to send us back to hotel after shopping in her shop!

Photobucket

~ the T-shirt we all bought ~

We went back to hotel safely and then getting ready to go out to eat the Batam famous seafood (again, I forgot the place). The crab, prawns & fish were very fresh! We love the dish. Went back to hotel, we rushed to redeem the free spa treatment (Batam is also famous for cheap spa). Our hotel gave us free 2 spa treatment (sauna, whirlpool etc) per day. Other treatments such as body massage can be enjoyed with good price (cheaper than in Msia).

Day 4 – Tuesday

After much resting, we woke up and had our bfast at the hotel. Everybody was satisfied with the whole-day shopping trip yesterday. We packed our things and checked out from the hotel at 930am. We only paid RM150/ person for 2 nights stay + bfast for 2 days + spa treatment. Very affordable! Makes us wanna come again.. ;-)

We reached Batam Centre (the jetty) at around 10am. It was still early. Our ferry boards at 11am and reached Spore Harborfront at around 1pm. We straightaway took a cab to Changi airport. Had our lunch there before boarding our flight at 415pm. We reached LCCT at around 5.05pm. Performed Zuhur-Asar prayer before Ana made a move to KLIA to catch her MAS flight to Kuantan. Zue & Yatt were taking Airasia back to KB that night. I waited until after Magrib then took the Skybus ride to KL Sentral. Already heading home in KL.. with sweet memories of the trip.

Cant wait for our next trip!

DKNY Woman

dkny_women_perfumeconnection_com_au_sm.jpg

Last week, i bought this perfume. DKNY Woman (though I like DKNY Man more). It was rilli an impulse buying. And i kinda regret it, considering that i need to spend money on many unexpected (and expected) stuffs this month. And, it’s the most expensive perfume I’ve bought! *Sigh..* But, I like this perfume since i was studying. I didn’t plan to buy until the salesgirl in Metrojaya Midvalley stopped me and my friends. (We were heading to MPH bookstore at that time). My friends bought DKNY Be Delicious and i got myself this one.

Few days after that, I wandered around Parkson in Megamall Kuantan, and I tried the Clinique Happy in Bloom (limited edition). I like this one though my friend says nothing unique about this one. It smells like a scent everyone’s using. No, I’m not buying any perfume in this 2 years time! (Hope so..) I got enough for my collection now…

happy-in-bloom.jpg

Ina asked my opinion on what perfume she should buy after her Clinique Happy. And she said she don’t want another Clinique for the time being. So,i think CK Euphoria Blossom is a good choice. I still have half bottle of it.

Last week, I tried the new Davidoff Adventure (for men). It smells unique. But i think for some men who prefers fresh scent, this one is a bit ‘loud’ for them. But, still I can tolerate this one.
